Rokt'star Spotlight: Kevin Melgar
We’re taking a moment to highlight some of the Rokt’stars that help their teams thrive by challenging the status quo and working in different ways. Read on to hear about their time at Rokt and what makes them tick both in and out of the office.
Meet Kevin:
SVP of Finance, he/him
September 15th to October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. As a founding member of Rokt's Employee Resource Group (ERG) Rokt'Estrellas what are some of the group's goals?
Rokt'Estrellas launched this year to elevate the voices of our Hispanic and Latinx Rokt'stars. Growing up as the child of immigrants from El Salvador and Honduras, I was excited to join this group and meet others with similar experiences as well as our allies. As both a member and Executive Sponsor, I'm excited to build an active, engaging community where we celebrate our culture, support Latinos in our community, and have fun together.
How are you celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month this year?
I'm excited to help my daughter with her 4th-grade Hispanic Heritage Month project. She chose to write about a true pioneer, Ellen Ochoa, who was the first Hispanic female astronaut. I also love Latin food, and my family and I will celebrate the various cuisines at local restaurants and at home.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Rokt so far?
Without a doubt, GKO in Sydney has been my favorite memory—not just the experience of traveling somewhere new and really interesting but also getting to meet so many people at a deeper level and develop strong bonds that those days together enabled. I'm fortunate to be part of an organization that invests in these experiences for its employees and truly embraces and lives its value of being 'Better Together'.
What are some of your hobbies or passions outside of the office?
I speak Spanish, and recently, I've decided there's still time to take on the challenge of learning a third language, so I've started learning French (c'est une belle langue). I'm grateful that my kids are able to grow up in a place as amazing as New York City, so I often spend my free time hanging out with them in the city, exploring neighborhoods (and usually their playgrounds).
Which Rokt value resonates with you the most and why?
I'm a firm believer in 'Own the Outcome.' Thinking like an owner is essential for driving success, especially in early-stage businesses. I feel that, in many ways, this quality helps enable other core values to thrive. For example, someone who thinks like an owner will want to make sure their customers are well taken care of ('Start with the Customer'), will feel motivated to innovate to make their business or area significantly better ('Conquer New Frontiers'), and will want to make sure that they're producing work at the highest level of quality ('Raise the Bar').
